More at home in the city-never mind the model name-is the G650 X Country ($8625). Suspension travel is a little more tame, a plush 9.5 inches in the front and 8.3 at the rear, so potholes won’t be a problem. Seat height drops a useful couple of inches accordingly, and the riding position is easy. and natural, comfortable for the long haul.
The Sertão’s off-road biased suspension creates a seat height far less welcoming of short folks, and you won’t find a low seat option for the Sertão as you will for the standard 650GS. However, there is an optional tall seat (35.4 inches, $239). The Sertao doesn’t let a little water get in the way of adventure.

The OEM shock from BMW is a Sachs and has a hydraulic preload adjustment knob at the top, and a rebound damping adjuster at the bottom, but no compression damping control. I had the preload set to the maximum amount and the rebound set somewhere from 70% to max damping. Still bottomed out.
